OK, Today the Supreme Court is suppose to decide on one of Sotomyer's last cases. 20 firefighters have sued the city where they work. They did this because at some point the city put out a memo stating that any firefighter to pass this test would get a promotion. I have read reports that one of these guys actually has a slight case of dyslexia and hired a tutor to help him study. At the end 20 passed, 19 white and 1 hispanic. When this happened the city decided to throw out the test because not enough minorities passed the test. Now, I understand the premise behind affirmative action but this is just plan reverse discrimination.
Can you not hear the city counsel meeting? Well screw these 20, what we need to do is retest. When we get the proper results then we'll promote, maybe by then the white guys will get tried and stop taking the test. Or maybe the other guys will start studying by then, or we could just lower the standards......
I don't know what the test was like but reports say it was not a picnic. What about the 20 that had to put their nose to the grind stone. What about those guys that sacrificed time away from friends and family to study. Now all of a sudden it's sorry about your luck????
So, they take it to court, and lose. They appeal, and lose. But here's the kicker, No' Bama's truly was on the panel. Yep Sotomyer voted against these guys!!!!
Now, I know I'm not a hispanic woman so my judgement is no where near as good as hers. But common sense tells me that if your are going to promote someone you do it on the base of merit and not skin color. However, I'm just a white unemployed male so there is really no reason for me to even type this. Seriously it's genetics, she is according to stats, much better then I when it comes to common sense. However, it seems that my ablity to apply my limited amount supersedes her gross majority.
